I don't wanna be buried in a pet sematary...

PET SEMATARY es una de mis canciones favoritas de The Ramones (aunque hace un tiempo que no los escucho).

La letra de la canción no se entendería si no tenemos en cuenta que hace referencia a una obra de Stephen King del mismo título, que fue llevada al cine en 1989 con éxito relativo. De hecho, esta canción (incluida en el álbum de la banda de 1989, Brain Drain) fue grabada para la banda sonora de la película. Ésta trata de una familia americana que se muda a un pueblecito rural, donde empiezan a ocurrir sucesos extraños, los cuales parecen estar relacionados con un cementerio de mascotas ("pet cemetery" en inglés; en el libro y en la película, en el cartel que marca el lugar se lee "pet sematary", quizás haciendo referencia a la manera de escribir infantil), del cual regresan los cuerpos de los animales enterrados allí. Los problemas de la familia aumentan cuando su hijo muere atropellado por un camión y el padre decide enterrarlo en el cementerio de mascotas para que vuelva de entre los muertos. Así ocurre, pero convertido en un engendro diabólico (para saber más detalles y el final, leer el libro o ver la película, jeje).

Como curiosidad decir que la canción sólo se escucha en los créditos finales de la película, y que otra de las canciones más famosas de The Ramones, "Sheena is a punk rocker", se escucha de fondo en la escena de la muerte del hijo de la familia.

Así, ya podemos entender a qué hace referencia Joey cuando canta "I don't wanna be buried in a pet sematary, i don't wanna live my life again..."
